Money Saving Wedding Tips
You don’t have to break the bank to have the wedding of your dreams. Here are our top tips to save you money, brought to you by Dream Wedding Insurance.
1 Choose Wisely
Instead of splashing out on every element of the day, choose to go big where it counts, and ditch some of the non-essential elements. Go big on the wedding cake and lose the lolly table. Buy the dress of your dreams but forgo the horse and cart. Forget the canapés and go bigger on the main meal. Make a list of your ‘must-haves’ and save on the less important extravagances.
2 Halve it
Go for two bridesmaids and two groomsmen instead of four of each – you’ll save on outfits and gifts! Involve your special friends in other ways, like readings at the ceremony, or toast master duties at the reception. Choose one music act instead of two. Make the choice between DJ and Band – you don’t need both. A DJ will sometimes be cheaper, but bands will often provide a DJ service, after their main set.
3 Get crafty
You can save serious cash by getting creative. Start with the save-the-dates and invitations. You can pick up all the essentials for making your own wedding stationery at the local arts and craft store. Get your bridesmaids involved and make a day of it. Or why not try something totally different with photography? Snap an image of yourself and your partner holding a save the date sign, and email it to your guests or post it in a Facebook event? Check out some of these fun ideas. Another money-saving tip is to make your own bonbonniere. Homemade favours can be really sweet, not to mention cost-effective! Here are a few of our favourites.
4 Venue Selection
Look for a venue that doesn’t require you to use its own vendors. This could save thousands of dollars if you have the freedom to shop around for your own caterers, florist, band etc. If you find the perfect venue but they do require you to use their vendors, ask the question, you may get them to budge a little on certain things like the cake.
Starting at just a couple of hundred dollars, it’s a small price to pay should something go wrong. If you have to cancel and reschedule your wedding due to sickness, severe weather, venue cancellation etc, there are very few couples that could afford to lose deposits and payments to re-book the entire day. Did you know that wedding insurance also covers supplier failure, wedding attire, rings, wedding gifts, cars and transport, marquee and equipment hire, and more? It makes sense to insure your big day.
